Sing (2016)

Aaannnnddd after all this troublesome office storm, the lady in pink is finally back! Haha. First of all, here’s the original movie site.
Sing is the story of a theater producer koala named Buster Moon (voiced by the sexy Matthew McConaughey), whose Moon Theater is almost declared bankrupt. Refusing to give up on his theater, Moon then holds an audition for singing competition with the prize that sums up all he has left, $1,000 but announced erroneous by his old secretary as $100,000. This audition leads Moon to encounter some amateur singers with great voices, a housewife pig Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), a punk rock teenage porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johannson), a soulful young gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), a stage frightened elephant with golden voice Meena (Tori Kelly) and a cocky street musician mouse Mike (Seth McFarlane). Together, they bring out the best performance Moon Theater has ever held, and finally saved the existence of that theater.

8.2/10. Actually, I want to watch this movie after listening to the Dream On song by Aerosmith at the trailer, and a little disappointed when I finally cannot find any character sing that song. However, the music and the songs are still AWESOME! From Sinatra’s My Way to Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off, from Stevie Wonder’s Don’t You Worry Bout a Thing to Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah to Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, you named it! It’s like a perfect mix of songs from mid 70s till now, where you can sing along and be mesmerized at the same time. Plus, please note that this movie is like American Idol audition held on Zootopia, so you can expect a gorilla sings Elton John, chipmunks sing Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda, or a sheep sings Seal’s Kiss from a Rose. Oh not to mention that this movie is also funny! You can expect fun from Despicable Me (2010) and the cuteness from The Secret Life of Pets (2016) since they came from the same producers.

However, please be wise in allowing your children to watch this movie. This is a movie with so many characters that came from very distinct backgrounds, and their life cannot always be bright. Johnny the Young Gorilla, for example. His father is a criminal, a bad guy. Though he escapes the prison to watch his son’s performance, says that he is proud of him and the scene is maybe one of the most touching moment of this movie, escaping a prison would be still a hard thing to explain to little children. Mike the street musician is also not a very bright character. He is cunning, big mouthed, and also has a character of a bully, though his voice is really amazing.

Please, please be wise when watching this with your kids. Enjoy the movie and, happy laughing!!
